Laura Byrd grew up in western North Carolina. She began her career in education at Mayland Community College, where she served as Executive Director of the Foundation. Laura left her position at Mayland and accepted a position at North Carolina State University in 4-H Youth Development in Charlotte, North Carolina. She worked with NC State for almost 10 years before returning to the community college at South Piedmont Community College where she served as VP of Institutional Advancement. In 2017, Laura accepted a position at Lake-Sumter State College, where she serves as Vice President of Institutional Advancement. She resides in Lake County with her husband, Julian. They have one son, Miles who is in college in NC. Laura serves on the Boards of United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties, Lake County Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is active in her local church, where she works with the children's ministry. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading and traveling with her family.
